Andalgalá: A town against a mining company

Catamarca re-enabled mining. The people of Andalgalá have nothing to do with Wall Street but they know what water is worth. They learned to wash the overalls with yellow water, to defend the river through which a pipeline passes -although it is prohibited- and to enjoy the rain like a goal from Maradona. They have been denouncing the environmental impact of mining on their land for 15 years. Now they had to re-file an injunction against the Catamarca government, which in December 2020 enabled the activity despite being prohibited by previous rulings. Medical diagnoses are proof of the human cost, and Agua Rica's impunity shows how extractivist multinationals operate in Latin America.

Andalgalá: Un pueblo contra la minería

Catamarca volvió a habilitar la minería. La gente de Andalgalá no tiene nada que ver con Wall Street pero sabe lo que vale el agua. Aprendió a lavar los guardapolvos con agua amarilla, a defender el río por el que pasa -aunque esté prohibido- un mineroducto y a disfrutar la lluvia como a un gol de Maradona. Llevan 15 años denunciando el impacto ambiental de la minería en su tierra. Ahora tuvieron que volver a presentar un amparo contra el gobierno de Catamarca, que en diciembre del 2020 habilitó la actividad pese a estar prohibida por fallos anteriores. Los diagnósticos médicos son la prueba del costo humano, y la impunidad de Agua Rica evidencia cómo operan las multinacionales extractivistas en América Latina.
